Surgical Removal/Nail Avulsion with Matrixectomy

This surgical procedure of an ingrown nail involves removing a small portion of the side of the nail and destroying the nail bed beneath. This is known as a Nail Avulsion. The toe is injected with a numbing medicine, and the toenail is cut to create a new, straight nail edge. The cells underneath the nail will try to grow a new nail, so they must be destroyed, thereby creating a permanently thinner nail. The toe is then bandaged until it completely heals (a few weeks). If the nail is infected, antibiotics are given prior to the procedure to alleviate pain, avoid complications and to speed healing time.Permanent ingrown toenail surgery is recommended for serious ingrown toenail conditions or when this situation has reoccurred multiple times.

Temporary Nail Surgery

This procedure requires similar treatment to permanent, but the nail matrix (the cells which grow the nail), are not destroyed. A corner of the nail is cut out and removed but the nail will grow back. This is a temporary option for someone with a first time nail occurrence or a not so severe ingrown toenail. The fact that the nail grows back, runs the risk of a subsequent ingrown toenail to arise, opposed to a permanent nail avulsion.

Wart Surgery/ Excision

Surgical Excision

Simple surgical excision with a scalpel or curette can be performed to remove warts. Sometimes other measures to burn the wart off can be used in combination with this treatment.

Needling: Needling is done in conjunction with a local anesthetic where the virus is punctured multiple times to stimulate an immune response against the vitrus.

Electrosurgery and curettage: Electrosurgery (burning) is a good treatment for common warts, filiform warts, and foot warts. Curettage involves scraping off (curetting) the wart with a sharp knife or small, spoon-shaped tool. These two procedures often are used together.

Cyst Treatment

It is suggested to first see a GP for a diagnostic ultrasound to properly diagnose the lesion.During a cyst removal, a local anaesthetic is used to numb the skin. A tiny cut is made in the skin and the cyst is squeezed out. Sometimes, the cyst may recur and this type of procedure will leave a scar.Sometimes a corticosteroid injection may be applied to the area as a conservative option prior to surgical intervention.
